Toad in the hole is a British classic. Fantastic for those with large families as it's cheap and you can serve dinner straight out the dish at the table
Toad in the hole
Difficulty :- Beginner
Total Time :- 50 minutes
Serves :- 6
Ingredients
- Plain Flour ~ 100g
- Milk ~ 300ml
- Egg ~ 1 medium
- Salt & Pepper
- Oil ~ 2 Tbsp
- Sausages ~ 8
Method
- 1. Pour your oil into an oven safe dish and chuck your sausages in the oil.
- 2. Place the dish in a preheated oven at 220C(430F)/200C Fan(400F) for 10 minutes
- 3. While the sausages are browning add your flour and salt & pepper into a large mixing bowl, add your egg and begin whisking while slowly pouring the milk into the bowl. Once the milk has been used up you should have a lump free batter.
- 4. Once the sausages have been in the oven for 10 minutes, take the dish out and very quickly pour the batter into the dish & transfer back to the oven.
- 5. Cook for a further 40 minutes, checking back every so often just to make sure the top isn't burnt.
- 6. Once cooked, take out the oven and serve straight from the dish. Best served with some greens and a roasted onion gravy.
