Autumn is a time for hot chocolates & sitting in front of the fire. It's also a time to bring out the nutmeg and cinnamon for some incredibly tasty treats. Nothing reminds me more of autumn than an apple & blackberry crumble.

Apple & Blackberry Crumble

Difficulty :- Beginner

Total Time :- 50 minutes

Makes :- 6 Portions

Ingredients
  • Flour ~ 150g
  • Brown Sugar ~ 35g
  • White Sugar ~ 35g + 2tbsp to coat the apples
  • Porridge Oats ~ 35g
  • Butter (Cubed) ~ 75g
  • Apples ~ 3 medium
  • Mixed Spice ~ 2 tsp
  • Blackberries ~  A handful
    Method
    • 1. Sieve your flour into a large mixing bowl and add your sugar & oats and mix well
    • 2. Add your cubed butter and run the flour through your fingers while squeezing the butter
    • 3. once the texture is like fine breadcrumbs, move the bowl to the side and prep your apples
    • 4. Peel your apples and chop into 2cm cubes
    • 5. When working with the apples, place the cut apple into water with a tsp of lemon juice to prevent browning
    • 6. Drain and dry your apple cubes using some paper towel and transfer into the dish you're using for your crumble
    • 7. Coat in 2 tbsp of sugar and 2 tsp of mixed spice and mix well
    • 8. Scatter your blackberries in the dish and give it all one last mix

    • 9. Pour your crumble over the fruit and smooth out the top 
    • 10. Place in a preheated oven at 180C/350F for around 35 minutes or until the crumble has turned golden

    • 11. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Best served with some ice-cream, custard or cream
