Today I'm going to show you how to make a super simple pizza sauce recipe. This recipe is a little different to some you may find and that's because there is no added sugar! By taking out the seeds and pulp of the tinned tomatoes then cooking them for an hour, the sauce naturally sweetens with a final result of a nice well balanced sauce.
Pizza Sauce
Difficulty :- Beginner
Total Time :- 15 minutes prep | 50 Minutes cooking
Makes :- 2 - 3 medium pizzas
Ingredients
- Onion ~ 1 medium
- Garlic clove ~ 1
- Tinned plum tomatoes ~ 1 tin (400g)
- Tomato paste ~ 1 tsp
- Dried Basil ~ 1tsp
Method
- First pass your tomatoes through a sieve to remove the seeds and pulp.
- Finely chop the onion & garlic
- In a saucepan on medium - low heat add some oil and add your onions until soft an translucent.
- Add your garlic and dried basil and cook for 1 minute to release the flavours
- Add the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute to take the raw edge off
- add all of your tomato sauce (I get around 300ml after straining) Stir and bring to a low boil
- Once boiling turn your heat down to the lowest setting and simmer for around an hour but check up on the sauce around 45 minutes in to test for desired thickness / sweetness
- If you want a thick lump free sauce just blend until smooth. Personally I just leave it lumpy
